May 20, 2015 - A very large and turbulent storm cloud passes overhead just about church time on a Wednesday evening. Photo was taken about three miles west of Rutledge lookwing towards the southeast.
April 17, 2015 - A very rainy day ending in clearing skies...
April 8, 2015 - IT'S A BIRD, a PLANE, NO...IT'S...someone parachuting over Luverne...??? Hmmm, well that's a little different...
April 8, 2015 - Another shot of the parachute...it appears it was a powered hang-glider type of aircraft. We all need a hobby...I guess.
April 7, 2015 - Fog...thick as pea soup.
March 31, 2015 - A golden sunset silhouetting the water tank.
March 20, 2015 - A foggy morning for walking the dogs.
Friday the 13th: Link to photos of the February 13, 2015 fire at Trish's Treasures.
January 04, 2015 - A brilliant sunset behind the water tank.
November 25, 2014
October 23, 2014 - Partial eclipse of the moon. Soon after the eclipse started some clouds started rolling in from the west and eventually made the eclipse difficult to photograph. This is about the best shot I could come up with. Somewhat out-of-focus. You can see a major solar storm a little lower and to the left of center...the dark spot.
August 18, 2014 - A strong storm moving into Luverne from the west on a Sunday afternoon.
June 22, 2014 - Some dark clouds moving over Luverne on a Sunday afternoon.
June 17, 2014 - The two shots above were taken west of Rutledge off of Highway #10 looking to the south. I was heading home and saw this storm in the distance and noted the stars above it. The camera was handheld out the window of the jeep and a high ISO so the pictures are a bit grainy but create a nice image of clear stars and a violent storm.
May 30, 2014 - These are a couple of shots of some violent storms that passed through the area starting around 3:30pm and on until about 5:00pm. We didn't get but .75" of rain at the station, but some places certainly got more than that. One of the guys at work (MJ) ran into a big pine tree that was blown down across the road on County Road 77 (Big Apple Road), thankfully he was only running around 20mph. Another vehicle hit it at the same time from the other direction...it basically landed just before they hit it being as a log truck in front of MJ passed without hitting the tree. There was a lot of tree damage in the area.
May 29, 2014 - I was going through some image captures fromt the weather camera and stumbled upon a series of these rainbow shots. Seems a wee little girl was born this very morning and when her father called his father-in-law to tell him the news his FIL responded that he was sitting on the front porch looking at a rainbow. God promises more than just a new day....
April 30, 2014 - This image has been retouched to "camouflage" the line that was going horizontally across the upper third of the picture. The original unprocessed image is the next image down.
April 30, 2014 - A storm system has struck the eastern half of the nation for the last several days. Several dozen people were killed after tornadoes struck in several states. This is an image from the second night (actually early morning) of storms that shows a burst of lightning over downtown Luverne. Not a great shot technically (it's a capture from the weather cam) but it's pretty good on impact. (This is the original, unprocessed image.)
February 1, 2014 - Anice cloudy sunset over Luverne.

Below are two links to some photos taken in Crenshaw County, Alabama during the January 28th, 2014, winter storm that hit south Alabama along with several other southern states. It showered the area with an inch or so of sleet followed by a topping of snow. Temperatures ranged from the low teens to the low twenties during this time. Many highways and roads were impassable. Thankfully, not much ice damage to power lines nor trees were experienced. The largest problems were in transportation. 70F degrees and rain is predicted for the weekend. If you don't like the weather around here, just wait...

January 7th, 2014 - It got down to 13.5F degrees last night. High is supposed to be around 32F today with the temperature dropping back down into the mid-teens tonight. It's a beautiful day, but rather cold for us southeners! It was around 20F when this picture was taken.
January 6th, 2014 - The "Polar Vortex of 2014" is landing in Dixie. Low tonight is supposed to be around 12-degree F with windchills down to ZERO. Weather that we are not familiar with.
December 4, 2013 - Heavy clouds south of Luverne, Alabama.
November 27th, 2013 - The cold weather moved in and the skies turned to a brilliant blue during the daytime and for a couple of nights the sky was crystal clear. This shot is towards the west. The anemometer pole can be see on the right hand side of the picture stretching up above the silhouette of a tree. A light reflection is glinting off of the rain gauge lower and towards the left. If you look above the house you will see a "cloudy" looking area...this is a portion of the Milky Way, the galaxy that is home to our solar system. God *is* awesome, isn't he? To the lower right-hand side of the sky there is a light streak in the sky. We're still trying to figure out what the streak is...airplane (but there's no pulsing light)?...satellite (a little late at night, but...)?... the USS Enterprise with Spock onboard???...
November 25th, 2013 - Almost sunset. These clouds rolled in the day before those 20-degree nights hit us just before Thanksgiving. Interesting clouds.
July 18th, 2013 - Almost sunset. There is still lots of moisture in the atmosphere from all the rains we've been getting. I looked around today and saw a literal panorama of weather. This is five frames stitched together. Location is about 5 miles west of Luverne. The panorama is from the SW to the NE.
July 17th, 2013 - Around 9:30pm. Storm over Rutledge and Luverne viewed from several miles west of Rutledge off of Hwy#10.

August 3rd, 2013 - Saturday. I was going through the pictures I took last night of the stars and found something else. Two frames prior to the sudden double lights showing up there was a streak of light pointed in the direction of the double lights. The next frame shows no light and then the next one is the double lights. The light streak is located above the double light location at a bearing of about 340-degrees. Maybe a meteor entering the atmosphere and then blowing up?

August 2nd, 2013 - Friday. A little experiment tonight. I attempted to photograph star movement tonight. This consists of roughly 478 photos, each being exposed for 16 seconds. It was somewhat of a success but clouds kept it from being a sparkling sky...I'm happy with the first effort, though! What is interesting is that at about 13 seconds into the video "something" appears in the lower left hand corner of the screen. A couple of elongated lights. Meteor? I'll try to include the still picture that the light appears in.
First attempt at photographing a moving star field.

July 30th, 2013 - Wednesday. We had to hire Tracey Bedsole of Bedsole Roofing Company out of Andalusia to repair the two-year old roof on the old Gulf/BP Station. This video is rather large but shows them repairing the roof and also some very interesting cloud formations. BTW, we've had a couple of very heavy rains already and haven't seen a drop of water fall inside...unlike the flooding we were getting earlier with Wells pitiful work.

July 21th, 2013 - Sunday afternoon. This shows a rainstorm passing through at the station site. This one goes over into the evening and shows a moonrise and then the moon being obscured by clouds.

July 20th, 2013 - This timelapse video includes the ISS in the scene. This one continues until dark and shows a good bit of cloud movement while the anemometer points the direction that they're coming from.
